Bills RB Latavius Murray Reveals 'Only Goal' of Signing with Buffalo

For veteran running back Latavius Murray, signing with the Buffalo Bills came down to some pretty clear reasons.

It might seem a bit obvious, but Latavius Murray didn't sign a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills this offseason to settle for anything less than a Super Bowl ring.

Entering his 10th go of it in the league and coming off of one his best seasons in over five years, the veteran running back continues to make his goals crystal clear considering his non-guaranteed NFL future as an aging ball-carrier. But back near his hometown of Nedrow, N.Y., he's not taking this upcoming season for granted while simultaneously keeping internal expectations high.

“The only goal is to go out here and compete for a championship and do everything I can to make that happen,” Murray told The Buffalo News during a recent local student event at Highmark Stadium.

Murray was one of two key additions to the Buffalo backfield this offseason, as former New England Patriots running back Damien Harris signed with the team as well. These two, along with second-year ball-carrier James Cook, will likely perform together in a committee role, though Cook could earn more snaps due to his pass-catching ability. Nyheim Hines will specialize in the return game, but is set for action as well.

“We’ve got a great group of running backs,” Murray said. “We have a great locker room, all in all. It’s been great here to get to know everybody.

However, Murray experienced a bit of a career resurgence with the Denver Broncos this past season, and could be vying for a key role, especially if there's injuries. He rushed 160 times for 703 yards and five touchdowns while appearing in 12 games for the Broncos last season. Both the carry and rushing totals were his highest since 2017.

He proved he can still make an impact at age 33, which has now given him an opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl near his hometown with the Bills.

Playing with the sixth team of his career, Murray has seen a ton, but already knows the championship approach he's witnessing from his new teammates in Buffalo.

“A team has just been there year in and year out, and I think it’s just a long season,” Murray said. “I think you want to be playing your best ball late in the season. I know we have that mentality and that’s what we want to be doing this year.”
