Bills Bolster Offense, Draft 'Deep Threat' WR Jalin Hyatt: NFL Mock
There are few teams in this week's NFL draft that are in a more interesting position than the Buffalo Bills with their first-round pick. With a roster that doesn't have any glaring holes, what the Bills do in the first round is hard to pin down.
They could trade down or even out of the first round altogether to gain more draft capital, which is an option as they only have six picks currently. However, if they don't trade the pick, whether to move up or down, a strong possibility at No. 27 could be receiver.
No, receiver isn't the biggest need for an elite Bills offense that was the second best scoring offense in the NFL last season at 28.4 points per game. Despite that, though, they take receiver Jalin Hyatt out of Tennessee with their first-round pick in the latest mock draft from NFL.com's Eric Edholm.
"I strongly considered some front-seven options here, but the Bills have gone defense with their top pick four years running and there was no perfect fit in my mind," Edholm wrote. "Trading down feels like the preference."
"Hyatt's game still needs refinement, but this is an environment in which he could thrive: as a low-volume, high-return deep threat out of the slot. Josh Allen had trouble connecting on vertical shots late in the season, and Hyatt can help fix that."
The Bills already have a dynamic receiver duo in Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, who combined for 2,265 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns on 156 receptions last season.
In his final season at Tennessee Hyatt broke onto the scene in a big way, hauling in 67 catches for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging a whopping 18.9 yards per reception as a true deep threat.
His best performance came in Tennessee's 52-49 win over Alabama, as he needed only six receptions to rack up 207 receiving yards and five touchdowns on a staggering 34.5 yards per reception.
With Diggs and Davis already in Buffalo, giving Josh Allen another weapon that is a true deep threat could further unlock the Bills offense. Receiver might not ultimately be the pick for the Bills if they stick at No. 27, but if it is then Hyatt is an interesting name to watch when they're on the clock.
