NFL Fines Buffalo Bills, New York Giants After Sunday Night Brawl
At one point during the Buffalo Bills' 14-9 win over the New York Giants in Week 6, it looked more like WWE Smackdown than NFL football.
The Bills were driving late in the third quarter as they looked for their first points of the night, when suddenly, chaos broke loose. A massive brawl broke out in the end zone, which resulted in four players total getting unnecessary roughness penalties. Even Bills quarterback Josh Allen got in on the action, flying in to throw a body check on a Giants defender.
Unsurprisingly, the NFL came down hard on both teams when handing out its latest round of fines on Saturday. All four players who received penalties at the time, those being Buffalo offensive tackle Dion Dawkins and New York defensive linemen Dexter Lawrence, Leonard Williams and Kayvon Thibodeaux, were each fined $10,927.
This marks the first fine of the season for three of the four players involved. The only exception is Williams, who was also fined for a late hit on the quarterback in Week 3.
Additionally, two other Bills received unnecessary roughness fines not related to the melee. Defensive back Siran Neal was fined $17,963 for a play in the final minute of the game. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Ed Oliver was fined $21,885 for a play midway through the first quarter.
Oliver's bank account has taken quite the hit recently, as this is his fifth fine in the past three weeks. He received two fines for unsportsmanlike conduct in Week 4, as well as another for unsportsmanlike conduct and one for a late hit on the quarterback in Week 5.
The Bills return to action when they travel to face the division-rival New England Patriots on Sunday.
