NFL Power Rankings: Bills Last in AFC East?

Did the Buffalo Bills' loss to the New York Jets cause them to drop in Sports Illustrated's Power Rankings?

The Buffalo Bills' season got off to a rough start with their 22-16 loss in overtime on Monday Night Football to the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

With the loss, Buffalo slipped to 12th in Sports Illustrated's Power Rankings. Among AFC East teams, the Bills trail the Miami Dolphins (7th) and Jets (8th). The New England Patriots were ranked 17th.

The main reason for Buffalo's (0-1) slip in the power rankings was Josh Allen's play on Monday.

"The narrative is shifting quickly on Josh Allen, from impenetrable franchise quarterback to turnover machine who has stacked a few bad games on top of one another," SI writes. "With Brian Daboll gone for a second straight year, it’s worth taking a game like this against an elite defense and wondering what Allen needs to get back to form."

Allen was 29 of 41 for 236 yards, throwing one touchdown and three interceptions. He was also sacked five times and ran for 36 yards on six carries in the loss.

"For so long, Allen’s mobility seemed like the equalizer, but when facing a team equipped with enough different body types like the Jets and so much speed, he had to rely on a dropback game that was wildly uneven," SI writes. "A suspicious offseason in Buffalo, where we were certainly not as confident in the Bills as we normally are, bleeds into Week 1."

Allen's erratic and wreckless play was costly in the Bills' loss to the Jets (1-0). When Allen is at his best, he's one of the best quarterbacks in football. If the Bills can get him back to that form, they should be just fine. But figuring out what will get Allen back to his best is a completely different question.

The Bills have their home opener on Sunday at Highmark Stadium when they host the Las Vegas Raiders (1-0) at 1 p.m. ET.
