NFL Power Rankings: Bills Rising or Falling After Draft?
The Buffalo Bills followed a solid free agency period with a six-man class from the 2023 NFL Draft, setting the stage for another season in which they'll enter with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.
Coming off four consecutive playoff appearances, the Bills are eager to take the next step and get over the proverbial hump - but did they do enough this offseason?
In Pro Football Focus' latest power rankings, the Bills were slotted at No. 5 - down one spot from their pre-draft alignment.
"The loss of Tremaine Edmunds is significant for the Bills' defense, but they were able to retain safety Jordan Poyer and linebacker Matt Milano to maintain some stability," PFF writes. "They also boosted their offensive line by signing tackle Connor McGovern, but their other free agency moves have been fairly lackluster."
PFF added that Buffalo's third-round selection of Dorian Williams helps to "slightly offset" Edmunds' departure, as the former Tulane standout finished with a top-10 coverage grade among FBS off-ball linebackers during two of his final three campaigns.
Williams was named the Bills' "biggest impact player" from April's draft class, which was headlined by Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid (No. 26 overall) and Florida offensive guard O'Cyrus Torrence (No. 59 overall).
Buffalo lost its spot in the rankings to the Cincinnati Bengals, who rose to No. 4 after helping their secondary with the additions of Michigan cornerback DJ Turner and Alabama safety Jordan Battle.
The Kansas City Chiefs stand atop the list, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. The Bills' nearest AFC East rival is the New York Jets, who sit right behind at No. 6.
Will 2023 be the year the Bills finally top the mountain and walk away with the Lombardi Trophy? Only time will tell - but they're certainly amongst the favorites once again.
