Bills Re-Sign Cam Lewis in Free Agency: Details

Keeping continuity on special teams, the Buffalo Bills agreed to a two-year contract extension with defensive back Cam Lewis. He is Buffalo's second secondary re-signing thus far this offseason.

The Buffalo Bills are retaining a core special teams player who provides depth in the defensive backfield.

Local college product Cam Lewis has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $4 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter who has cited agent Sean Stellato. The 26-year-old Lewis has spent the past four seasons with the Bills after going undrafted out of Mid-American Conference member Buffalo in 2020.

The Bills were forced to release defensive back, and core special teamer, Siran Neal as a salary cap casualty last week, so re-signing Lewis allows for some continuity on the four specialty units.

Lewis has totaled 42 regular season appearances as a Bill, including all 17 games in 2023. He logged 75 percent of special teams snaps, making five tackles in that role. The versatile defensive back also recorded 16 stops and two passes defensed on 144 plays on defense.

Undersized at 5-9, Lewis initially earned a roster spot as a reserve cornerback. He has transitioned into a backup safety role while also taking some snaps as a nickel corner when needed. Set for his fifth pro season, Lewis is still searching for his first career interception.

Bills Bring Back Former Starting Punter

Lewis will return to a secondary that will feature a different look in 2024 with the Bills having already moved on from safety Jordan Poyer and cornerback Tre'Davious White. He is the second Buffalo defensive back to re-sign this offseason, joining safety Taylor Rapp.
