Bills Invite Son of Former Buffalo Safety to Rookie Camp
With the 2023 NFL Draft in the books and most undrafted free agents signed, rookie camps allow league hopefuls another chance to fulfill their dreams. The Buffalo Bills will begin their rookie camp on May 12, and a familiar name will be in attendance.
According to ESPN, the Bills invited former Ohio State defensive tackle Taron Vincent to their rookie minicamp for a tryout. The former Buckeye is the son of former NFL safety Troy Vincent, who played in Buffalo from 2004 to 2006.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland and attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Taron Vincent was a five-star high school recruit and the best defensive tackle prospect in the country according to 247Sports. The 6-2, 300-pound lineman played in 40 career games with the Buckeyes and started 20, including all 13 in 2022. In that time, he recorded 60 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
His father Troy enjoyed a 15-year NFL career. He was a first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 1992, spending four seasons with them before an eight-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed with Buffalo ahead of the 2004 season, recording 94 tackles, 11 passes defended and five interceptions in 24 games with the team. The Bills released him early in the 2006 season after injury, and he played eight games with Washington before retiring in 2007.
Throughout his career, Troy earned five Pro-Bowl selections and was the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2003. Today, he is the NFL's Executive Vice President of Football Operations.
Now, Taron is hoping to follow in his father's footsteps in the NFL. If his rookie minicamp goes well, perhaps he could begin his career with the same team his father once played for.
