Bills Rookies Report To Camp: 2 Starters Emerging?
The Buffalo Bills and Bills Mafia understands the difficulty of the climb. This franchise, as much as any in NFL history, demonstrated resiliency with its four consecutive trips to the Super Bowl 30 years ago.
Now it's time for another climb ... and it starts with the rookies reporting to 2023 Bills training camp. Veterans will be reporting on July 25, and there will be a first preseason game on August 12 vs. the Colts - all part of Buffalo working to put postseason disappointment aside and ascend that mountain again.
The Bills' veteran core is considered elite. Buffalo has made the playoffs four consecutive seasons, winning the AFC East the last three. The Bills' run includes back-to-back Divisional Round appearances (2021, 2022), and they reached the AFC championship game in 2020.
And in 2023? Despite all that success, each year the Josh Allen-led Bills have failed to reach their ultimate goal. Now, with the AFC expected to be tougher than it has been in recent years, maybe Allen needs more help.
And maybe he gets it from this rookie class, with two of the early attendees - Round 1 pick Dalton Kincaid from Utah, and Round 2 pick O'Cyrus Torrence from Florida - accelerating in their work at camp in an effort to contribute early.
We've already seen that Kincaid is "not just a tight end.'' The Bills will continue installing ways to use him as a receiving weapon, titles be damned. And Torrence will find himself in an uphill fight for a starting job ... But with the Bills maybe nailing both of these picks, he seems ready for the right.
There is talk from the national media of "Super Bowl or Bust'' for these Bills. We get it, though we think there is wisdom in taking these things step by step. Again winning the AFC East for a fourth straight season is important. Dealing on a regular basis with the Dolphins and the Patriots and the Jets led quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a focus.
But before any of that takes place, the mountain much be approached. And for now, rookies will lead that approach.
