Bills Signing P Sam Martin to New Contract - Details
The Buffalo Bills and punter Sam Martin have agreed to terms on a new deal that will keep in Orchard Park for the next three seasons, per reports from NFL Network on Monday.
Per the report, the three-year deal is worth up to $7.5 million and includes $4.115 million in guarantees.
Martin signed with Buffalo in August after the team released rookie punter Matt Araiza due to gang-rape allegations. But despite the sudden change after Araiza had been set to be the starter, Martin came in a performed quite well.
On 46 total punts, he averaged 47.7 yards per boot - which was 14th-best in the league - with a long of 67 yards. He helped flip field position often, pinning 16 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Martin, 33, is now set to begin his 11th season in the NFL. He was a fifth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2013, where he'd eventually spend the next seven seasons. He then spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Denver Broncos before ultimately making his way to Buffalo.
While the Bills will be hoping they never have to deploy Martin next season aside from being the holder for kicker Tyler Bass, he's proven to be a valuable veteran asset, one that the team clearly believes in evident by his new deal.
