Bills Extend Contracts of Sean McDermott, Brandon Beane; Right Move?

The Buffalo Bills have found a new wave of success over the last few years under coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane. But the two will now need to take this to another level after recently signing contract extensions.

Despite all the turmoil surrounding the team this offseason, the Buffalo Bills are proving that they are keen on keeping the gang together while their Super Bowl window remains open.

The Bills have extended the contracts of coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane through 2027, per an announcement from the team on Friday. The duo is entering their seventh season together in Buffalo after working with one another in a coach-to-executive relationship with the Carolina Panthers.

McDermott, who became the Bills' head coach in Jan. 2017, had signed a six-year contract extension in 2020. Originally set to end after the 2025 season, team has now added two more years to the deal, showing some understandable confidence in the 49-year-old.

In 97 career games as Buffalo's head coach, McDermott has posted a 62-35 record and and currently has the best win percentage in franchise history (.639) while coming off a fourth straight AFC East title. He ranks third in team history in regular-season wins, trailing only Marv Levy (123) and Lou Saban (70).

However, he has a 4-5 record in the postseason. He'll now have to reach increased expectations and at least take the Bills to the Super Bowl in order to justify the extension.

As for Beane, it's possible the Bills wouldn't be seen as a championship contender without his efforts. He was responsible for drafting franchise quarterback Josh Allen and trading for stars like Stefon Diggs and Von Miller all while keeping much of the same defensive nucleus together over the past few years.

Both Beane and McDermott also proved invaluable to the franchise after helping guide the team through the Damar Hamlin incident, the snowstorm that caused back-to-back games at Ford Field and more of the adversity that last season brought.

Who knows where the Bills would be without McDermott and Beane? But there's now no time to get complacent in order to prove that the team made the right move by extending them.
