Broncos Cut DB Justin Simmons; Could Bills Sign?
The Buffalo Bills are gutting their roster before the start of free agency next week.
The Bills have cut several players from their roster, including a few members of their secondary (Siran Neal, Tre'Davious White, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer).
Perhaps a way to start rebuilding the secondary is targeting one of the best defensive backs on the open market ... Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons.
Simmons, 30, was cut by the Broncos early on Thursday after eight seasons with the team. This past season, Simmons recorded 70 tackles and three interceptions for the Broncos. In 2022, Simmons led the league in interceptions with six alongside Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Seattle Seahawks rookie Riq Woolen.
It will be pricey to bring Simmons aboard, but given all the cap space the Bills have shed over the past day or so, it isn't out of the question. If the Bills signed Simmons, it would reunite him with linebacker Von Miller, who played alongside him with the Broncos from 2016-21.
Bills Re-Signing QB Trubisky? Signs Point to Reunion
If the Bills want to remain among the league's top contenders, they are going to have to make some big moves in free agency. Not only does Simmons make sense in terms of need, but he also could provide enough impact to make Buffalo's defense scary again.
NFL free agency officially begins on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
