Bills' Stefon Diggs Still Heartbroken Over Playoff Loss: 'We Let the World Down'

Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs isn't mincing his words regarding the disappointment from the playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Considering all they went through before and during the 2022 season, the Buffalo Bills were supposed to be the team of destiny, as anything short of a Super Bowl win would've resulted in complete disappointment.

Instead, Buffalo's season ended with images of snow-filled sadness and frustration after a 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Divisional.

One of the most memorable of these was the sight of Bills star receiver Stefon Diggs waving his arms in annoyance at quarterback Josh Allen before later reports stated that Diggs stormed out of the locker room with his stuff after the loss.

A passionate player who has never been afraid to show his emotions, Diggs' in-the-moment reaction was the result of postseason disappointment that has continued to stack up in recent seasons. But he admitted that this year's loss was the hardest to swallow when factoring in the expectations that came with the adversity.

"It felt like the world was pulling for us and we let them down," Diggs told USA TODAY Sports.

Diggs spoke at Radio Row at Super Bowl LVII, as he’s attending the big-game festivities as a spectator rather than a player. Though he didn't admit it, these circumstances were likely eating at his competitive-filled nature.

But he remained focused on feeling empathetic for Bills Mafia, who he understands hurts from the early playoff exit as well.

"It weighs on your emotions a little bit, especially considering Buffalo is that tight knit, family town," Diggs said. "You want to win for them. You want to do everything for them, but it's just so much going on in the world."

While a destiny-filled win would've made for a storybook ending, in reality, all the adversity made it equally difficult to overcome the pressure. Still, Diggs isn't making excuses.

"You kind of try to put it in the back of your mind or compartmentalize momentary, just so you can focus on games," he said. " ... Went through a lot, it's never any excuses but it was tough."

Things won't get any easier for the Bills next season, as is the nature of the NFL. But with a tough year and forgettable playoff loss behind them, the Bills can now focus on 2023.
