Bills BREAKING: All-Pro Taron Johnson Signs Contract Extension

The Buffalo Bills have experienced some tough departures on defense this offseason, but one of the mainstays of the Sean McDermott era won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Per reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bills are signing All-Pro defensive back Taron Johnson to a three-year, $31 million contract extension. The move makes Johnson the highest-paid nickel DB in the NFL.

"Bills are signing All-Pro DB Taron Johnson to a three-year extension that makes him the NFL’s highest-paid nickel back, per source. He’s tied to Buffalo through the 2027 season," Schefter tweeted Monday.

Johnson, 27, was a fourth-round pick by the Bills out of Weber State in 2018. He's played all six of his NFL seasons in Buffalo, but had a breakout year this past season before being an All-Pro selection. He posted a career-best 98 total tackles along with three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, eight passes defended and one sack.

In 88 career regular-season games and 67 starts, Johnson has tallied 450 total tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions and one touchdown.

Buffalo lost long-time Bills Jordan Poyer, Dane Jackson and Tre'Davious White in the secondary but have now retained Johnson, showing that the team views him as one of the defense's top leaders during a Super Bowl window that's expected to remain open for the next few seasons.
