Bills Trade for White Would 'Fit' With Matt Milano - NFL Analyst

A Bills trade for Devin White? He fits into virtually any defense; he's not "McDermott-specific.'' But he doesn't fit into every team's cap ...

Devin White wants out of Tampa Bay.

Or he wants into the Buccaneers bank.

One or the other.

The Bucs have reportedly picked up White’s fifth year option that would pay the standout linebacker him around $11.7 million in 2023, but the 25-year-old White is apparently looking for a larger payday.

Even as Bucs management is saying its position hasn’t changed - word is they "have zero intention of trading their Pro Bowl inside linebacker'' - the speculation matching White to a next team is everywhere.

Writes ProFootballNetwork in identifying "top landing spots'':

"Sean McDermott has always built defenses around strong linebacker play, and the Bills’ unit has been no different. Edmunds and Matt Milano roamed the middle of the field together in Buffalo for the last four years, but with Edmunds gone, the Bills need a replacement. ... The Bills could take a one-year flier on White ...''

Alas, there is the problem.

"A one-year flier''? Isn't that already the real root of White's problem in Tampa, is that he wants a big-money extension now? Meanwhile, isn't Buffalo already on record, via GM Brandon Beane, that the Bills won't be "Von Miller-level'' shopping this spring due to cap restraints?

Devin White fits into virtually any defense; he's not "McDermott-specific.'' But he doesn't fit into every team's cap ... especially because the Bills would have to "pay twice'' (the new contract plus whatever the trade cost). So the need for a Milano running mate is going to have to come in a more affordable manner.
