BREAKING: Buffalo Bills Trade for Green Bay Packers CB Rasul Douglas
The Buffalo Bills have traded for Green Bay Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas right before Tuesday's trade deadline, per reports from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The Bills are trading a third-round pick in exchange for Douglas and a future fifth-round pick.
Douglas, a native of East Orange, N.J., was originally a third-round pick out of West Virginia by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. He played three years in Philly, one season with the Carolina Panthers in 2020 and had been with the Packers since 2021.
In 96 career games, he's posted 354 total tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 66 passes defended, 15 interceptions and two touchdowns.
"The Bills I would say have made as many calls about cornerbacks or defensive backs as anyone over the past several days," Rapoport said Tuesday. "And I know there was a lot of cornerbacks up for discussion from Dante Jackson to Jaylen Johnson, not a lot of chatter around Rasul Douglas. ... That's actually a fascinating one because he is someone who really can change a game with his ability to go get the football to make plays on the football. That is what he has done the last several years, and now the Bills get another talent on defense."
The Bills have dealt with both injury and inconsistency in the secondary, as a deal for a cornerback was near the top of the speculation list on Tuesday. Veteran Tre'Davious White is out for the season with a torn Achilles. Other guys in the secondary like Jordan Poyer have also been dealing with some minor ailments throughout the first half of the season.
Additionally, second-year cornerback and 2022 first-round pick Kaiir Elam continues to get fazed out of the rotation, as he's now been a healthy scratch in five games this season.
The Bills visit the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
