Bills vs. Jets? Dalvin Cook: NY Will Be 'Superteam' If He Signs with Aaron Rodgers

"With the roster they have already and the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers, adding a guy like me - you know what I bring to the table - we could probably be a superteam when you put it together.'' - Dalvin Cook on signing with the Bills' rival Jets.

It has been quite a while since the New York Jets actually did anything "super.'' But Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook is going to visit the Jets this weekend and if all goes according to their combined plan, he could end up signing a contract that would put him in position to oppose the Buffalo Bills twice a year in the AFC East.

And how much would that signing flip the script for the Bills and the Jets inside the division?

"With the roster they have already and the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers, adding a guy like me - you know what I bring to the table - we could probably be a superteam when you put it together," Cook told CBS Sports HQ, meaning "we'' as in "the Jets.''

We're going to tap the brakes just a bit on that, for a number of reasons. A big one: If it was that obvious that Cook is the key to transforming a traditionally bad club into a "SuperTeam,'' franchises should be engaging in the greatest bidding war of all time for the free agent, recently cut by Minnesota in a cap move.

Indeed, if it was that easy and obvious, the Vikings wouldn't have cut him. And the Bills would've already moved mountains to add him.

There is no argument, though, that in terms of name value, the Jets with Dalvin and Rodgers would grab headlines. And maybe the roster would start to close the gap on the rosters of the established powers in the AFC, including the Bills.

Cook has recently made noise about the idea of him signing with the Bills. But he's made a lot of noise, about the Dolphins and the Patriots, too. The Jets idea has gained some momentum as Jets back Breece Hall is opening their training camp on PUP.

Of course, having traded for the Packers' Rodgers, there is an "all-in'' vibe to the Jets' efforts to climb out of the division basement and contend for a title.

Rodgers' new two-year, $75 million guaranteed deal puts his cap number at under $9 million, giving the Jets all the room needed to add Cook, who sources have told us is seeking $10 million APY in his new contract.

Cook - the brother of Buffalo's James Cook - averaged 4.7 yards per carry in his six seasons in Minnesota. This would be a different-level move for somebody. But "SuperTeam''? We won't place any bets just yet.
