Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets Preview: Late-Season Payback?
The Buffalo Bills are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive as they host the New York Jets in Highmark Stadium on Sunday for a Week 11 AFC East battle.
Both teams entered the season with high expectations but would not make the playoffs if they started today; This division matchup will go a long way in deciding who makes or misses the playoffs.
Big changes happened in Buffalo this week after the Bills were upset by the Denver Broncos at home on Monday night. After losing four of their last six games, the Bills fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. Head coach Sean McDermott hopes the Bills quarterbacks coach Joe Brady, who is now the interim offensive coordinator, can establish a confident sub-culture for the rest of the team.
Costly turnovers have plagued the Bills. Buffalo has 18 total turnovers, the second-worst in the NFL, trailing only the Cleveland Browns. Bills quarterback Josh Allen faces the challenge of finding offensive momentum against a Jets pass defense that ranks third in the NFL, allowing an average of 169.3 yards per game.
The Bills will be looking for payback after a Week 1 loss to the Jets, when QB Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles on the first drive of the game. The Jets still pulled off the overtime upset thanks to a 65-yard game-winning punt return touchdown by rookie Xavier Gipson.
The Bills defense will likely look to get after Jets quarterback Zach Wilson. The Jets offense has struggled to score points this season as they're averaging just 16 points per game (30th) and 283.1 total yards per game (29th).
Wilson and the Jets are also fresh off a defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders and have gone two straight games without a touchdown.
The Bills sit two games behind the first-place Miami Dolphins in the division. With seven games remaining, every win gets them closer to qualifying for the postseason.
