Bills 'Week 1 Worry': Josh Allen On Aaron Rodgers Trade to Jets

“They’re Game 1,” Josh Allen says, citing a schedule that immediately pits the Buffalo Bills against Aaron Rodgers' New York Jets. “That’s the only team I’m worried about right now.''

The Buffalo Bills are long-time rulers in the AFC East - yes, a three-year reign in this age of parity is almost dynastic - but team leader Josh Allen recognizes the change and the challenge ahead.

“They’re Game 1,” Allen said, citing a schedule that immediately pits Buffalo against the New York Jets. “That’s the only team I’m worried about right now.''

“Worried about” here doesn’t mean “worried about” as much as it means “working on.” … though the biggest improvement in the division could come from the Jets due to the controversial trade for star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, acquired in a blockbuster from the Green Bay Packers.

“I’m such a big fan of Aaron. I grew up such a big fan of him,” Allen said. “I think he’s done so much for the game of football. You see a lot of quarterbacks who are younger throughout the league, and there’s a lot of his game that everyone tries to emulate.”

Allen himself is beginning to be one worth emulating, too, a process that will be accelerated if the 2023 Bills can achieve their Super Bowl goals.

But that is part of Allen’s point: first things first, though AFC East watchers will not have to wait long to see the showdown. Rodgers and the Jets will open at home, with the Bills heading to MetLife Stadium in Week 1.

The high/profile matchup will be on primetime as the first “Monday Night Football” game of the season. … and that’s worth preparing for, if not “worrying about.”

Last season the Bills swept Jets, but it wasn’t easy. On the road in Week 9, Buffalo notched a 20-17 victory. In Week 14 at home the Bills won 20-12.

Rodgers is a four-time MVP. One wonders if 20 points per game on the part of the Bills will be enough to top him and the Jets … all the more reason for Allen and his Bills to continue working toward Week 1.
