Bills ‘Headline’ DeAndre Hopkins Trade Landing Spots - Report
The Buffalo Bills came into the offseason knowing they needed to add more playmakers around quarterback Josh Allen, whether that means getting him a top-tier running back or adding another elite wide receiver to pair with Stefon Diggs.
So far, the Bills have made some additions, but none of the big ones that many of the BillsMafia hoped for. But there is still time, as Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is reportedly looking for a trade, and it could be a steal for the Bills after the Brandin Cooks trade to the Dallas Cowboys.
Various reported suggest Buffalo is in the mix, including one suggesting the Bills are the “headliner” for his services.
Oh, and then there is Hopkins’ own “Buffalo Soldier” hint …
The Cowboys sent a 2023 fifth and 2023 sixth-round pick in exchange for the 29-year-old veteran, making it unlikely that the Cardinals will receive their desired asking price of a second-round pick and another pick or player.
For the Bills, a bargain deal for a receiver like Hopkins would make sense, as it would put defenses in a bind of choosing who they try and take away, Diggs or Hopkins.
As shown in the AFC Divisional Round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, when Diggs was taken away, the Bills' passing game couldn't pivot as the running game never got rolling, and their second and third options couldn't make up for the loss of Diggs.
But finances of a potential deal stand out as a roadblock for the Bills, as they are currently projected to have just $9 million in cap space. Meaning moves would have to be made to afford the $19 million salary that Hopkins is set to make in 2023.
But if they can work it out cap-wise, sending a day-two and a day-three pick to the Cardinals in exchange for an elite receiver is the type of bargain the Bills need.
