'CRACK!' Cold Breaks Mahomes' Helmet, Dolphins Spirit; Chiefs Advance (to Buffalo?) in Playoffs

'CRACK!' K.C. Cold Breaks Patrick Mahomes' Helmet, Miami Dolphins Will - Chiefs Advance in Playoffs

It was minus-4 degrees, with the wind chill at a minus-27 degrees.

And the Miami Dolphins didn't seem like they wanted much of that, losing at Kansas City in a Saturday playoff game that sets up a Chiefs-at-Buffalo Round 2 match if the Bills can handle their first-round business.

The Chiefs shut down the high-powered Miami offense, 26-9, with K.C.'s only "breakdown'' coming in the form of Patrick Mahomes’ helmet, which shattered on a hit.

Ever experienced anything like that before, Patrick?

“I have not,” Mahomes said. “I’m sure it had to do with it being really cold.”

KCStar

Indeed. The was the fourth-coldest game in NFL history ... which of course has Mother Nature saying, "Hold my beer!'' with the Steelers at Bills game next on tap.

That first-rounder has been moved from Sunday to Monday due to the dangerously nasty weather here in Western New York. And if the Bills win? The rival Chiefs come to town to defend their Super Bowl title from a year ago.

And as it relates to the weather, from Mahomes to superfan Taylor Swift and all the rest? All involved had better be ready for more weather of the sort that can make a team - and a helmet - crack.

“Guys came with that attitude, that mentality — we knew it was going to be cold,” Mahomes said. “All week we were preaching, ‘Let’s come in there with that fire and just get after it and see what happens.’”

"Fire''? Yes. When it's 27-degrees below zero, fire sounds good.
