McDermott not worried about Bills not making trade deadline moves
The NFL trade deadline came and went Tuesday and come 4 p.m. the Bills roster looked the same way it did when the day began.
"Brandon and I had some conversations over the last couple of weeks and I know he and his staff do a good job of looking into things," McDermott said this week. "You guys know we are going to do what is best for this organization short and long term and at the end of the day we didn't see something that was responsible for us to do. We are trying to do this thing the right way and so we want to be responsible with that."
If the Bills were to make a move, they could have added some depth on offense in the passing game. Buffalo ranks 24th overall in that category with 1,507 yards this season. Earlier in the month, Buffalo traded away former second-round pick Zay Jones to the Oakland Raiders after he struggled to start the season.
Veteran wide receiver and "big name" player A.J. Green's name was floating around at the top of Bills' fans "wish lists." Green has not played a game yet this season with an ankle injury and is in a back and forth contract negotiations with Cincinnati.
So, the Bills like the majority of the league, decided to stand pat on Tuesday and McDermott says that is a sign of the trust he has in Buffalo's current roster as they make a push in the AFC playoff race.
"I think is says that we are confident in the guys we have and expect them to play well. If there isn't a responsible move to make then we aren't going to make it and that is what we are here to do. There has been way too many years of irresponsible decision making, let's just put it that way."
