Josh Allen is one of us. The Buffalo Bills quarterback is a real football enthusiast.

NFL preseason play kicks off Thursday night with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton and Allen plans on watching when the Chicago Bears battle the Houston Texans before an ABC television audience.

"I love football. We'll have it on in the dorm rooms. Make sure that we're learning as we're watching, too," said Allen.

Even though starters and established veterans rarely see the field in this annual exhibition, Allen finds plenty of value in observing and using the game film as a learning tool.

There's a lot of things that these young guys can learn from in this first preseason game. You'll see a lot of missed tackles. You'll probably see some ball handling issues," said Allen. "Just things that we can learn from, and Coach McDermott will probably put that up on the board on Friday, tomorrow, when we meet."

After an off-day, the Bills practiced in Pittsford on Thursday. The team will make a quick return to Orchard Park for the Blue & Red scrimmage on Friday evening at Highmark Stadium.

While watching the Bears and Texans officially lift the lid off the preseason slate Thursday, Buffalo will get a glimpse at its first opponent. The Bills host Chicago in their exhibition opener on Saturday, August 10.
