Bills have chance to record another franchise first in Week 18 vs. Patriots
The 2024 season has been one for the record books for the Buffalo Bills. And in a week where most of the starters will rest in preparation for the playoffs, the Bills have a good chance to add to those record books Sunday in Foxborough.
If RB Ray Davis records 12 or more receiving yards this week against the Patriots, the Bills will finish the season with TEN different receivers who each have 200+ receiving yards for the first time in franchise history.
We wrote previously how having ten receivers with 200 yards or more would be the most in the NFL this season and the most ever in Josh Allen’s career. But taking it a step further, it would be the most ever in Buffalo's 64-year existence. The Bills had eight players with more than 200 receiving yards in 1995 and 2011. So, technically they already set the franchise record by having nine different receivers with that statline this year. However, the 2024 team can extend their own record and continue to separate themselves this week by doing something that no other Bills team has done before.
The Bills went into the season with the "everybody eats" mentality, and they have certainly lived up to those expectations as they don't even have a thousand-yard receiver. They probably won't even have a 900-yard receiver, and there's a good chance that they'll finish with just two players who have more than 500 yards.
Additionally, the Bills have 13 players who have scored a receiving touchdown this season. If one more player catches a touchdown pass on Sunday, it will break the NFL record. So, in a week where there's not much to play for, it'll be interesting to see if Davis can get his 12 or more receiving yards, and if someone like FB Reggie Gilliam, TE Zach Davidson, or WR K.J. Hamler can catch a touchdown pass.
Who knows, maybe we'll even have an offensive lineman set the NFL record!
