Brock Purdy is Relishing his Normal Offseason

Last offseason Brock Purdy had to deal with elbow surgery and rehab, which was tied to a strict schedule. This offseason he finally gets to experience a normal one by unplugging and then working to improve himself.

13 months ago Brock Purdy had undergone surgery to repair the UCL in his elbow.

From that moment on, Purdy's offseason was predicated on rehabbing and recovery on a strict schedule. He was expected to be the starting quarterback of the 49ers for the 2023 season assuming he gets on track.

It was always a toss up as to whether or not he would be ready for the start of training and even Week 1 against the Steelers. Luckily for the 49ers, Purdy was able to work endlessly to his elbow in sufficient condition to be ready for the start of training camp and set himself up as MVP candidate for the season.

Enduring that offseason is surely taxing and stressful. Thankfully Purdy can finally have a normal offseason this year and it is one that he is relishing.

“Yeah, it was huge. I got married really a year since surgery. I got surgery March 10th. I got married March 9th. So for me it was like, this is going to be a different kind of offseason. It's nice that I don't have to be on this schedule and regime of rehab, rehab, rehab, get healthy and sort of stress about am I going to make it back for the season or not?

"So it's been nice to obviously marry Jenna and then we sort of just have an offseason to breathe and reflect on really the last two years because it's been go, go, go. So for me it's been really good, just mentally and sort of having that hunger to come back and be ready to roll. So it's been good.”

For Purdy, he didn't get that chance to unplug and unwind during the offseason. Everything revolved around his elbow injury and he had to work hard to make day one of training camp for the 49ers.

This time around he got that chance, which was critical given the heartbreaking loss in the Super Bowl to the Chiefs. It's always necessary to unplug from the stress of work or life in general and Purdy got to do that.

Plus, Purdy will actually get a chance to improve upon himself. He couldn't do that last offseason since he had to work tirelessly to rehab. Now, he actually can be a football player and polish up some of his weak areas.

That factor alone should make it exciting to see how Purdy will look in 2024.
