Report: Broncos Lose Free-Agent FB/TE Andrew Beck to Texans
On Monday, the Denver Broncos shook the Mile High City with a pair of tectonic free-agent signings to bolster the offensive line and protect quarterback Russell Wilson. Amid the new blood coming in, the Broncos did experience at least one outgoing loss (with more sure to follow).
Long-time fullback/tight end Andrew Beck took his talents to the Houston Texans, signing a two-year deal, per NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
The Texans are signing former Denver Broncos fullback-tight end Andrew Beck to a two-year, $6.75 million deal with $4 million guaranteed, according to a league source.
Beck arrived in Denver back in 2019 by way of the waiver wire. The Texas Longhorns product went undrafted that year, and after not quite sticking with the first club he signed with as a college free agent, he managed to make himself valuable to the Broncos, where he remained for the ensuing four years.
Initially viewed more as a tight end coming out of Texas, the Broncos liked him as a lead-blocking fullback thanks to his prowess in that department. All in, he appeared in 51 games as a Bronco, starting 10.
To date, Beck's career numbers feature 14 receptions for 159 yards and a touchdown. However, the highlight of his tenure in Denver was certainly being awarded the NFL's Salute to Service Award, which is presented by the USAA every year.
The Texans are starting over with new head coach DeMeco Ryans and Beck is going to be at least part of that picture. Happy trails to Beck.
Meanwhile, when it comes to the tight end position, the Broncos are left with 2022 third-rounder Greg Dulcich and Albert Okwuegbunam, who's entering a contract year. Time will tell whether new Broncos head coach Sean Payton opts to kick the tires of Eric Tomlinson or Eric Saubert, both of whom are coming off a one-year deal in Denver.
As for their own free agents likely to be signing elsewhere, the Broncos will be closely monitoring the Dre'Mont Jones, Dalton Risner, and Alex Singleton situations over the next few days. Risner's departure is fait accompli, and the same is likely true for Jones. But hope remains alive with Singleton.
