Broncos Set New Record in Embarrassing Loss to Dolphins
The Denver Broncos set an ignominious record on Sunday. With 9:05 left to go in the fourth quarter of Week 3's embarrassing road game vs. the Miami Dolphins, backup quarterback Mike White hit Robbie Chosen for 68-yard touchdown.
The extra point gave the Dolphins a 63-13 lead, which is the biggest point total the Broncos have ever allowed. Twice in team annals, the Broncos relinquished 59 points to an opponent.
On the Dolphins' very next possession, the Broncos allowed running back Devon Achane to rush for a 67-yard touchdown. The extra point brought the total to 70 for Miami.
The most points ever in an NFL regular-season game were scored by Washington back in 1966, who defeated the New York Giants 72-41. As I write this, there's still 8:01 to go in the fourth quarter.
The Dolphins could have gotten the all-time record on Sunday vs. the Broncos. But in a classy move, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel opted to kneel on the ball with 30 seconds left to go with his team in field goal range. He was three points away from the all-time record.
Denver's day defies any and all explanation. It's literally inexplicable.
It's hard to see Broncos head coach Sean Payton not firing defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. The Broncos have relinquished 122 points in eight quarters on Joseph's watch. Through just three games.
Payton will lose any and all hope of maintaining credibility with his team and the NFL if Joseph is allowed to remain after this atrocity.
Dilly Dilly, to the pit of misery
