Report: Broncos Exercise WR Jerry Jeudy's Fifth-Year Option
Beating Tuesday's deadline, the Denver Broncos have exercised the fifth-year option on wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, according to media reports.
Jeudy — earning $2.681 million in the final season of his rookie contract — is slated to make a fully-guaranteed $12.987 million in 2024.
This has always been the likeliest outcome involving Jeudy, the 15th overall pick of the 2020 draft who led Denver in receiving last season, totaling 67 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns — all career-highs.
The Broncos not-so-quietly shopped Jeudy in recent months, with their asking price being a first-round pick. But, despite generating "plenty of interest," general manager George Paton couldn't find a taker and instead committed to the former Alabama star.
"We don’t anticipate doing anything with him," Paton told reporters in March. "We like Jerry. He’s going to be here."
Jeudy, 24, enters the upcoming campaign as the Broncos' WR1, a centerpiece of new head coach Sean Payton's offense. He leads a talented if log-jammed corps featuring Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and second-round rookie Marvin Mims, whose acquisition raised questions about Jeudy's future in the Mile High City.
Questions that now officially are resolved.
"I think Mims is going to complement what we have. Again, he’s going to compete, but it has nothing to do with any of our receivers," Paton said Friday.
