Broncos Linked as 'Ideal Home' for Former Titans QB Ryan Tannehill
With the majority of NFL free agency wrapping up as many big names have signed their new deals, the quarterback landscape is beginning to dry up for the Denver Broncos. After cutting ties with Russell Wilson, only Jacoby Brissett and Ben Dinucci are the only active signal callers on the roster.
For a team that could be in the market for bringing an additional veteran QB into the mix, the options are getting slim. However, one name who still sits on the market sticks out as a potentially ideal fit if the Broncos wanted to bolster their quarterback room.
That player is former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The one-time Pro Bowler has spent his past five NFL seasons in Nashville and could be eyeing a new place to call home for next year amid his pending free agency. Even if he may be turning 36 years old in July, Sean Payton and Denver could come calling.
In CBS Sports' latest NFL free agent matchmaker, Cody Benjamin pinned the Broncos and Tannehill as a good fit for each other, noting that the veteran QB can mesh into a system that Coach Payton desires and needs for this Denver offense:
"Denver has yet to add a quarterback this offseason, and while an early draft investment would be logical, Tannehill offers an experienced arm best suited to play within a system -- just as Sean Payton desires. At 35, he's a low-ceiling rental, sure, but the best alternative in Denver right now is Jarrett Stidham."
Last season wasn't the best for Tannehill, who started eight games while presenting a stat line of 1,616 passing yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions en route to a 3-5 record. Still, a fresh start in a new situation like Denver could help him get back to the form we've seen him at earlier in his career.
Tannehill's best season came in 2019 during his first year in Tennessee as he got thrown in as a starter mid-year to receive Pro Bowl and Comeback Player of the Year Honors, also commanding the Titans to a 7-3 record to close out the season. He was also the man under center during their run as the AFC's No. 1 seed in 2021.
Even if the ceiling might be limited on a possible addition of Tannehill, he provides some needed stability and veteran leadership to a quarterback room that's desperately in need of a boost. Especially if the Broncos opt to add a young QB in the draft, having an adult like him in the locker room can be critical for their development.
While nothing's quite concrete, keep an eye on where Tannehill ends up in the coming weeks of the offseason, as the Mile High could inevitably end up as the spot.
