Report: Broncos to Visit Pre-Draft with Oregon State TE Luke Musgrave
The Denver Broncos are scheduled to conduct a pre-draft meeting with Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave, reports The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler, who describes Musgrave as a "premier flex weapon" and "talented pass-catcher."
Indeed, Musgrave totaled 47 receptions for 633 yards and two touchdowns across 20 appearances for the Beavers, with a knee injury limiting him to just two games in 2022. But his measurables are unignorable.
The nephew of former Broncos offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, the 6-foot-5, 252-pound Bend native clocked a 4.61-second forty-time and recorded a 36-inch vertical at February's Scouting Combine, drawing comparisons to Eagles TE Dallas Goedert.
"Between the abbreviated 2020 season and an injury-shortened 2022 campaign, Musgrave’s snaps have been somewhat limited, but it’s easy to like what he’s put on tape," wrote NFL.com's Lance Zierlein. "His route running harkens back to his slalom days with nimble feet and smooth hips helping to generate rhythm and separation in and out of breaks. He needs a little more bulk for combat in the trenches, but he offers what evaluators are looking for in technique, strain and demeanor. Musgrave has starter potential and should gain a coveted slot on draft boards from teams looking to add versatility to their 12 personnel (two tight ends) packages."
Musgrave would provide a boost of dynamism to a thinned-out Denver room consisting of Greg Dulcich, Albert Okwuegbunam, and blocking specialist Chris Manhertz.
And a position that may be up for grabs under new head coach Sean Payton.
"We'll see," Payton said last month when asked about Dulcich. "We haven’t gone through every player relative to the evaluation process. Some of it was hard—the evaluation. Some of it was hard.”
