Broncos Re-Sign S P.J. Locke
Amid reported interest in top free agent C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the Denver Broncos brought back a familiar face to their defensive secondary.
The Broncos re-signed safety P.J. Locke, the team announced Thursday. Terms of his contract have yet to be publicized.
Undrafted in 2019, Locke returns for a fifth season with the Broncos after the club opted not to extend a $2.63 million restricted free-agent tender. The Texas product has appeared in 47 games, accumulating 31 combined tackles (18 solo), two forced fumbles, one quarterback hit, and a pass deflection.
Locke, 26, logged a career-high 111 defensive snaps last year while pulling most of his weight on special teams (341 snaps).
“I am just thankful for the opportunity," he said following Denver's Week 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers. "At some point my number is going to be called and I am going to be ready."
Locke — who joins Justin Simmons, Caden Sterns, Delarrin Turner-Yell, and Devon Key as safeties under contract for 2023 — is the second in-house free agent retained by the Broncos, who on Monday inked starting inside linebacker Alex Singleton to a three-year, $18 million deal.
