The Denver Broncos took care of another in-house free agent, re-signing tight end Adam Trautman to a two-year contract, 9NEWS' Mike Klis reported Tuesday.

Trautman was a 2020 third-round pick who spent his first two seasons with the Saints under then-head coach Sean Payton. Upon taking the Broncos' job, Payton swung a draft-day trade for the 27-year-old last April, sending New Orleans a seventh-round selection.

Trautman received ample playing time — a career-high 755 offensive snaps — following an injury to starting Denver TE Greg Dulcich. He appeared in all 17 games, with 12 starts, catching 22 passes for 204 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

“I always wanted to come back,'' Trautman told Klis after re-upping with the Broncos. "I made that very known after the season to both [general manager] George [Paton] and Sean.

"I knew they had some work to do in the offseason, that was no secret with some of the moves they had to make. I was trying to stay patient. It’s hard not to take some of (early negotiating offers) personally but I’m very happy. I made it clear to my agent Chase (Callahan) that I wanted to be back here. I have my role carved out in this offense. I know the offense in and out better than I would argue anybody.

“I feel super comfortable. I know I’m a leader in that room and that’s a huge thing for me coming back too. I love the tight end coach, I love Declan. I was with him for three years in New Orleans before they traded for me last year. I love all the guys in it. The support staff is awesome. Not to mention the food is amazing there in the cafeteria.”

Trautman is the sixth Bronco to re-sign with the club since NFL free agency kicked off, joining kicker Wil Lutz, safety P.J. Locke, offensive lineman Quinn Bailey, wide receiver Michael Bandy, and fullback Michael Burton.
