Broncos Release OLB Marcus Haynes from Practice Squad

Haynes' spot should be filled rather quickly.

In a move that may precede a corresponding transaction, the Denver Broncos released outside linebacker Marcus Haynes from the practice squad, the team announced Monday.

A rookie out of Old Dominion, Haynes signed with the Broncos this past May as an undrafted free agent. He was waived on Aug. 29 amid final cuts and brought back via the practice squad the following day.

Haynes appeared in all three of Denver's preseason games, recording five tackles and one pass deflection.

Haynes' release leaves the Broncos without an OLB on its taxi squad. The club is carrying five on its active roster: Baron Browning, Jonathon Cooper, Nik Bonitto, Thomas Incoom, and Ronnie Perkins.

The Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson speculated that additional shuffling could occur as the Broncos have two players — wide receiver Brandon Johnson and tight end Greg Dulcich — eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 13.

"We'll see if #Broncos releasing OLB Marcus Haynes from practice squad is a precursor to attempting to move a player down from the 53 to the practice squad," Tomasson tweeted on Monday. "A roster spot would be needed if Brandon Johnson returns Sunday at Houston off injured reserve."
