Report: Broncos Conduct Draft Meeting with Penn State QB Sean Clifford
The Denver Broncos are permitted to hold three, one-hour Zoom interviews ahead of next month's NFL draft. They used their first on an incoming rookie quarterback.
Per 9NEWS' Mike Klis, new Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb met virtually Wednesday with Penn State prospect Sean Clifford, a potential late-round selection.
A 46-game Nittany Lions starter, Clifford completed 61.4% of his passes for 10,661 yards, 86 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions, adding 15 scores on the ground. He accumulated a 32-14 career record, finishing as the 2023 Rose Bowl Offensive MVP.
The 6-foot-2, 217-pound signal-caller has drawn comparisons to current Saints QB Taysom Hill — that is, a gadget-like player for Broncos head coach Sean Payton.
"Sean Clifford is an athletic read option quarterback who is probably best suited for the college game," reads his Sports Illustrated scouting profile. "Clifford has little to no NFL arm talent and has only shown an ability to succeed in one read/read-option situations. Though listed at 6’2, Clifford plays much smaller than that. The upside for Clifford is only there if he could drastically reinvent his game this next season. His best-case scenario is a Taysom Hill-type role, though that may even be out of reach."
The Broncos enter the draft with only Russell Wilson and Jarrett Stidham, a recent free-agent pickup, at the position. That should change following the annual offseason spectacle.
