Report: Broncos Sign Veteran CB Fabian Moreau
Fabian Moreau entered the Centura Health Training Center for a free-agent tryout. He left with a contract in hand.
According to media reports, the Denver Broncos signed the former Giants cornerback on Tuesday, bolstering a secondary that's been dominant through the opening days of training camp.
Moreau, 29, entered the NFL as a 2017 third-round pick out of UCLA. He spent his first four seasons in Washington, the 2021 campaign in Atlanta, and last year with the New York Giants, for whom he contributed 10 pass breakups across 11 starts.
Altogether, Moreau has appeared in 90 career games, totaling 252 combined tackles (178 solo), 35 PBUs, six interceptions, and three forced fumbles.
Once up to speed with the playbook, Moreau will bring some veteran know-how to an otherwise young CB room led by starters Patrick Surtain II and Damarri Mathis, both of whom — along with All-Pro safety Justin Simmons — have largely confounded their offensive counterparts in practice.
“When I watch them, the first thing you see is that they have ball skills, they’re smart, and they’re experienced," Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Tuesday of the secondary. "You see the communication, so it’s hard to find completions in some of these drills. They do a really good job of it. They force you—in some of their seven-and-a-half man fronts—to be patient and run the ball. They’re a challenge.”
