Broncos Bring Back P Riley Dixon
Riley Dixon is returning to where his NFL life began.
The Denver Broncos signed the now-veteran punter, the team announced Tuesday. Per 9News' Mike Klis, Dixon inked a two-year contract, additional terms for which remain undisclosed.
The 228th overall pick of the 2016 draft, Dixon spent his first two seasons in Denver, managing 45.7 gross yards per punt on 162 boots. Surprisingly to many, the Syracuse product was traded to the New York Giants in 2018 for a conditional seventh-round choice.
Dixon averaged 45.2 YPP —including a career-high 71-yarder — across four years with the Giants, who released him during the 2022 offseason. He spent last season with the Los Angeles Rams, setting a personal-best 48.4 YPP average as well as logging his first zero-punt appearance.
"I always remember watching Thomas Morstead down in New Orleans with Drew Brees, and they'd always hold up the zero and post a picture after the game, and I thought, 'Man, that must be pretty cool," Dixon said in December.
At worst, under new special teams leadership, Dixon will provide competition for incumbent Broncos P Corliss Waitman. At best, he will outright take the job from Waitman, who averaged 46.6 YPP over 96 punts in 2022.
