Report: Broncos Sign Third-Round Rookie CB Riley Moss
On the day before rookie minicamp was set to begin, the Denver Broncos came to terms with third-round cornerback Riley Moss on a four-year deal, per DNVR's Zac Stevens.
Moss was the second member of Denver's rookie class to sign his contract, with sixth-round safety JL Skinner being the first. Later, seventh-round center Alex Forsyth signed his deal.
9NEWS' Mike Klis provided Moss' contract details.
"Moss in line for 4-yr, $5.45M total value that includes $961,809 signing bonus (per spotrac)," Klis tweeted.
Moss left Iowa with 11 career interceptions. In his red-shirt senior season at Iowa, he totaled 47 combined tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception, and 11 passes defensed.
While Moss has been praised for his football IQ and communication skills on the back end of the Hawkeyes' defense, he has a penchant for "boom-or-bust" coverage, relinquishing a total of 14 touchdowns in coverage as a Hawkeye.
The Broncos traded picks No. 108 and a 2024 third-rounder to move up to No. 83 to grab Moss in the draft with pick No. 83. The Broncos may have relinquished their fourth-round pick, but they gained a 6-foot-1, 193-pound corner with 4.45 speed.
Although many draftniks projected a future position change to safety for Moss in the NFL, his performance at the Senior Bowl this year convinced many of his wherewithal as a corner. It'll be interesting to see how the Broncos envision the former Hawkeye, but my bet is as a corner.
