Report: Broncos Sign Former First-Round WR Phillip Dorsett
By the end of Tuesday's cutdown period, the Denver Broncos were left with only four wide receivers on the initial 53-man roster. By the beginning of Wednesday, they began to rectify that depth chart.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Broncos "plan to sign" veteran WR Phillip Dorsett, who was released by the Las Vegas Raiders as part of final cuts.
9NEWS' Mike Klis later clarified that Dorsett is joining Denver's practice squad, not its active roster.
Dorsett, 30, has bounced around since entering the league as the No. 29 overall pick of the 2015 draft — to include stints with the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks (where he played aside Russell Wilson), Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, and Raiders.
Altogether, he's tallied 151 receptions for 2,001 yards and 12 touchdowns across 92 career games (19 starts). The Miami product also owns a Super Bowl ring from his time in New England.
A collegiate track star, Dorsett (5-10, 192) blazed the 40-yard dash in 4.33 seconds and could provide deep-ball depth after the Broncos lost speedster WRs KJ Hamler and Jalen Virgil.
"He can challenge teams vertically inside or outside and he has home-run potential after the catch as a slot receiver," reads Dorsett's pre-draft scouting profile.
Dorsett is the second wideout to land on Denver's taxi squad, along with Lil'Jordan Humphrey, who's expected to be re-signed following his Tuesday release.
