Report: Broncos to Trade or Release OLB Frank Clark
Frank Clark's days in a Denver Broncos uniform are increasingly numbered.
Multiple reports indicated Thursday that Denver is expected to trade or release the veteran outside linebacker following its Week 6 contest against the Chiefs. Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Clark agreed to a pay cut to facilitate his departure, reducing his $3.5 million base salary to the $841,000 league minimum.
"Clark’s future with the Broncos is fluid, but this is the kind of deal players and teams cut when they’re about to part ways," Garafolo noted.
A three-time Pro Bowler in Kansas City, Clark was signed by the Broncos in June to provide an experienced presence in their pass-rushing corps. But the move never went to plan as Clark failed to register an impact under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
Through five games, three of which he missed, the 30-year-old has amassed a grand total of two solo tackles, earning a paltry 45.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. Clark was relegated to just 11 defensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Jets — the writing on the wall.
Thus, Clark will be the second OLB shipped off after Denver dealt Randy Gregory to the 49ers last week. And the 1-4 club won't stop there in selling its assets.
Matt Lombardo of FanBuzz reported Thursday that the Broncos are expected to trade wide receiver Jerry Jeudy prior to the Oct. 31 deadline, with one NFC club already holding "internal discussions" about acquiring the former first-round pick.
Other players who could follow Clark out of the door by Halloween include WR Courtland Sutton, left tackle Garett Bolles, safety Justin Simmons, and inside linebacker Josey Jewell.
Let the rebuild commence.
