Broncos Waive OLB Ronnie Perkins
The Denver Broncos made a change to its active roster entering Week 15, waiving outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins, the team announced Thursday.
Acquired in September by way of the Patriots' practice squad, Perkins appeared in five games primarily as a backup for the Broncos, managing six solo tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and a pair of quarterback hits across 109 defensive snaps.
Perkins' release is notable as it further thins a Denver edge-rushing corps down key reserve Nik Bonitto, who's been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Lions due to a knee injury.
Behind Bonitto on the depth chart are Drew Sanders and Thomas Incoom. The club could promote recently-signed OLB Durell Nchami from the practice squad to fill the vacancy on its 53-man roster.
It's also possible (if not probable) that the Broncos replace Perkins' spot with tight end Lucas Krull, who's "expected" to be promoted from the taxi squad — having exhausted his maximum of three elevations — with TE Greg Dulcich (hamstring/foot) set to miss another week.
"#Broncos rule OLB Nik Bonitto (knee) and TE Greg Dulcich (hamstring, foot) out Saturday at Detroit. They waive OLB Ronnie Perkins and TE Lucas Krull is expected to be signed off the practice squad to take his place," The Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson reported Thursday.
