Vallejo left Dove Valley without a contract, however.

Not only did Vance Joseph retain his job following the Denver Broncos' 50-point loss to Miami, the embattled defensive coordinator managed to lure one of his former pupils into Dove Valley.

According to 9NEWS' Mike Klis, the Broncos on Tuesday hosted inside linebacker Tanner Vallejo on a free-agent visit. Vallejo, however, left without an agreement and "for now" is not expected to sign, per Klis.

A 2017 sixth-round pick of the Bills, Vallejo spent the last three seasons playing under Joseph in Arizona, where he notched 45 solo tackles, five quarterback hits, two pass deflections, and 1.5 sacks across 43 games (seven starts). He also had stints with Cleveland, Arizona, Washington, and, recently, Minnesota, who released him in late August.

More special-teamer (1,535 career snaps) than defensive maven (683), Vallejo would strictly be insurance for the Broncos, who are likely to face the Chicago Bears in Week 4 without starting ILB Josey Jewell. Jewell suffered a groin injury against the Dolphins and did not practice Wednesday.

"ILB Josey Jewell may miss a game or two with groin but there is hope he can avoid short-term IR," reported Klis.
