Cardinals Slam Russell Wilson With Salty Tweet Following Preseason Win

Shots fired.

Whoever runs the Arizona Cardinals' social media account was feeling some swagger on Friday night. The Denver Broncos rolled into State Farm Stadium and fell in the closing seconds of the game, 18-17.

The Cardinals celebrated their exhibition win on social media like it was the Super Bowl, throwing a very low blow at Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. The video edit included the words"Safe travels, Broncos," and "That motherf*cker back there is not real," before panning to a shot of Wilson working out.

The tweet, which, again, came from the Cardinals' official Twitter account, has been deleted.

The Cardinals' video featured the famous MEME of a woman losing it on a commercial flight being spliced with shots of Wilson working out, superimposed in an airplane cabin. Last year, following the Broncos' Week 8 trip to London, England, Wilson was asked what he does on such a long flight, and he talked about doing knee-highs while his teammates slept, which was lampooned by the media.

This MEME is frankly embarrassing to the Cardinals. It would be just as cowardly and classless had it been sent after a regular-season game that counted. The fact that the Cardinals aimed low at Wilson on the heels of a meaningless preseason game is quite shameful and embarrassing. It reveals a vacuum of leadership and class within that organization.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton kept Wilson and the first-team offense on the field for 20 snaps. The first three possessions were fruitless, but Wilson hit paydirt on the fourth with a 21-yard touchdown strike to Jerry Jeudy. Wilson finished the night 7-of-13 for 93 yards and touchdown, with a QB rating of 102.4.

The Broncos have bigger fish to fry than punching down to a classless organization like the Cardinals.

Update: This article was updated on Saturday afternoon to reflect the Cardinals' deletion of the tweet in question.
