Report: Former Broncos G Dalton Risner Visits Vikings

Risner could reunite with OL coach Chris Kuper.

It was disclosed last month that as many as seven NFL teams were expressing interest in signing former Denver Broncos starting guard Dalton Risner, who's languished on the open market since March.

One of those teams, apparently, was the Minnesota Vikings, for whom Risner made his first free-agent visit, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Monday.

A 2019 second-round pick, Risner was a 62-game starter for the Broncos, primarily at left guard. He made 15 appearances last season, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 42 OG among 77 qualifiers — with a plus pass-protection rating (72.6) and substandard run-blocking mark (53.4).

Risner is perhaps best remembered for his sideline altercation with then-Broncos backup quarterback Brett Rypien during the team's Christmas Day loss to the Rams. The incident likely contributed to Denver's subsequent firing of head coach Nathaniel Hackett and Risner's long wait for his next NFL contract.

In Minnesota, Risner would reunite with ex-Broncos assistant offensive line coach Chris Kuper and offensive quality control assistant Justin Rascati.

The Broncos, meanwhile, are set at the position with LG Ben Powers and RG Quinn Meinerz cemented atop the depth chart and the recent addition of potential swingman Yasir Durant.
