Emmanuel Sanders Climbed Broncos' Record Books With 100-yard Receiving Performance In Week 4
Although it might not seem like it, Emmanuel Sanders is now in his sixth season with the Denver Broncos. As a member of GM John Elway's phenomenal 2014 free-agent class, Sanders has contributed to a World Championship, has earned multiple Pro Bowl selections as a Bronco and has posted three 1,000-yard receiving seasons with at least 75 receptions.
The 32-year-old wideout has been one of the team's few offensive constants since Super Bowl 50. Although the Broncos lost a heartbreaker last week to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Sanders' five-catch, 104-yard performance catapulted him up the team's all-time record books.
In Week 4, Sanders passed Ed McCaffrey for sole possession of fourth place on the team's all-time 100-yard receiving games list with his 19th such performances.
When it comes to 100-yard receiving games, ahead of Sanders now are only three Bronco greats:
- Demaryius Thomas (33)
- Rod Smith (30)
- Lionel Taylor (24)
- Emmanuel Sanders (19)
The Broncos are striving to climb out of the doldrums after their 0-4 start. Next up on the schedule are the 2-2 L.A. Chargers, whom the Broncos will travel to take on in Week 5.
Last year, the Broncos beat the Chargers in their house and it helped spark a three-game winning streak. Even one win right now would be a massive leap forward for this team.
For his part, Sanders remains confident that the Broncos can repeat last year's results and beat the Chargers on the road.
“I’m looking forward to going and playing against those guys, trying to get a win and it will be a good test for us because obviously going on the road," Sanders said on Tuesday. "We can beat a divisional opponent and get our first win. Hopefully, we’ll be on that plane Sunday after the game everything feeling very optimistic about the season, hopefully never losing again. That’s the mindset.”
Hats off to Sanders, though, in all seriousness. Joe Flacco is now the fifth starting quarterback Sanders has caught passes from since Peyton Manning hung up his cleats.
The QB pickens have been slim, and yet, Sanders has continued to fight and produce for his team. He's in a contract year and he's playing like it. Congratulations to him for moving up the Broncos' all-time list.
