Paton on Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy: 'He's Going to Be Here'
The Denver Broncos have until May 2 to exercise the fifth-year option on wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. And while general manager George Paton did not state for certain it would happen, his latest remarks left little to the imagination.
"We don’t anticipate doing anything with him," Paton told reporters Thursday, one week before the 2023 NFL draft. "We like Jerry. He’s going to be here."
Despite coming off a breakout season in which he led all Broncos receivers, Jeudy, 24, has since been a fixture in rampant trade speculation — speculation that Paton and new head coach Sean Payton continually tamp down.
“Really happy with how Jerry finished off the season, especially the last couple of games. We make those decisions, I believe in May, right near the draft," Paton said in February of Jeudy's contract. "We’ll make that decision. Really happy with where Jerry is at.”
"We're not trading those two players. ... we're in the business of gathering talent right now," Payton said in March regarding Jeudy and fellow Broncos WR Courtland Sutton, another popular name within trade circles.
The 15th overall pick of the 2020 draft, Jeudy is set to earn $2.681 million in guaranteed salary and count $4.834 million against the team's salary cap this fall. His 2024 salary would jump to $12.9 million if Denver were to pick up said option.
