Broncos WR KJ Hamler Expects to be Cleared for Training Camp
Denver Broncos wide receiver KJ Hamler is right on track in his return from pectoral surgery.
Hamler, who attended Jerry Jeudy's youth football event on Wednesday, said he should be cleared for the July 28 kickoff of training camp, Denver7's Troy Renck reported.
It's a positive development for the star-crossed wideout, who sustained a torn pec muscle early this offseason while training away from team headquarters. The injury came to light in March, and he was given a four-to-six-month recovery timeframe, butting up against the start of camp.
"He got his surgery done and he is rehabbing right now," Broncos head coach Sean Payton said on March 27.
Hamler, 24 (in July), has battled various maladies since entering the NFL as a 2020 second-round pick. The Penn State product finished his rookie campaign on injured reserve due to a hamstring issue dating back to college and missed the bulk of the following year after tearing his ACL and dislocating his hip.
The hammy flared up again in 2022, limiting Hamler to just seven appearances. Altogether, he's played in 23 of a possible 50 games, unable to stay off the trainer's table.
Once cleared and reacclimated to football activities, Hamler will compete for a spot amid the Broncos' crowded WR room, likely vying with rookie Marvin Mims for primary slot duties behind Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Tim Patrick.
