Report: Broncos WR KJ Hamler Suffers Torn Pec, Out 4-6 Months

Another brutal break for Hamler.

Denver Broncos wide receiver KJ Hamler is expected to be sidelined 4-6 months after sustaining a partially torn pectoral while conducting offseason training exercises away from team headquarters, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Thursday.

Hamler recently underwent surgery to repair the muscle, giving him "a chance to be ready right around the start of training camp in late July," per Pelissero.

The news was confirmed by 9NEWS insider Mike Klis.

It's, as alluded, another brutal break for Hamler, who's battled various maladies since entering the NFL as a 2020 second-round pick. The Penn State product finished his rookie campaign on injured reserve due to a hamstring issue dating back to college, and missed the bulk of the following year after tearing his ACL and dislocating his hip.

The hammy flared up again in 2022, limiting Hamler to just seven appearances. Altogether, he's played in 23 of a possible 50 games for Denver, simply unable to stay off the trainer's table.

Hamler's latest misfortune coincides with — and perhaps explains — the Broncos' free-agent interest in WRs Allen Lazard and Adam Thielen, both of whom signed elsewhere. It also occurred at a time when the team is reportedly shopping starting wideouts Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy.

With Hamler out of commission, Denver could turn to fellow speedy types Montrell Washington and Jalen Virgil during spring practices. However, it's more likely than not that the position is supplemented via next month's Draft.
