Report: Patriots Interviewing Broncos' Parker for DC Position
It was bound to happen sooner or later.
As first reported Friday by NFL Network and confirmed by 9NEWS, Denver Broncos secondary coach Christian Parker is interviewing for the New England Patriots' defensive coordinator position.
Considered one of the league's fast-rising assistants, Parker, 32, was hired in his current role by Denver in 2021 — the lone Vic Fangio-era holdover on the current roster — and has been credited with helping develop, among others, Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain II and All-Pro safety Justin Simmons.
“He’s sharp, man. He’s sharp. He’s a star. He is a great partner to work with," Broncos DC Vance Joseph said of Parker last June. "As a veteran coach, I’ve coordinated for about seven years now. My tape is out there, so I’m looking for ways to do different things. Speaking with Christian every day and bouncing ideas off him from what he’s done with [Dolphins Defensive Coordinator] Vic [Fangio] and guys in the past has been fun. [We’re] making changes and growing off what they did last year. He’s smart, he works his butt off and his players love playing for him. He’s a star.”
Should he depart, Parker will join the staff of new Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo, who in 2022 interviewed for the Broncos' HC gig that went to Nathaniel Hackett.
