Report: Broncos sign' OLB Jeremiah Attaochu to replace Chubb
Faced with the loss of their best young player — Bradley Chubb (torn ACL) — the Denver Broncos beat the street looking to add some veteran talent to the outside linebacker position.
Denver worked out several street free agents on Tuesday, including former Bronco Dekoda Watson, but signed Jeremiah Attaochu, per multiple reports. A former Chargers' second-round pick (2014), Attaochu has recently bounced around the NFL over the last two years, spending time in San Francisco, New York (Jets) and Kansas City.
The Chiefs were his last NFL stop and it didn't last long. Attaochu found himself on the outside looking in on final roster cut-downs on September 1.
Attaochu brings 49 games of NFL experience to the table for the Broncos, with 13 starts. For his career, he's got 12 sacks, 84 combined tackles and 20 tackles for a loss.
Attaochu's most prolific season came in 2015, his second year, where he produced six sacks, 52 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss and a whopping 17 QB hits. He appeared to be an ascending player.
Perhaps due to some injury issues, the former Georgia Tech standout eventually fizzled out with the Chargers and the team moved on. At 6-foot-3, 252 pounds, Attaochu now steps into the Broncos' rotation on the edge, which also includes Von Miller, and rookies Malik Reed and Justin Hollins.
The terms of Attaochu's deal with the Broncos are currently unknown. But we'll report as details come to light.
Later on Tuesday, the team announced that Bradley Chubb has been placed on injured reserve. Denver also announced the signing of rookie OT Calvin Anderson and the waiving of Keishawn Bierria, the second-year linebacker.
