Russell Wilson Predicted to Set Career High in Passing Yards
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson will notch a major milestone in 2023, his first season under offensive-mastermind head coach Sean Payton.
This, according to Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport, who predicted that Wilson sets a new career-high in passing yards thanks to the surplus of talent that now surrounds him — both on the field and the sideline.
"In Courtland Sutton, Jeudy and Tim Patrick, Wilson has a rock-solid trio of passing-game weapons at his disposal. The arrival of Payton should be a sizable boost to an offense that ranked dead last in scoring in 2022," Davenport wrote Thursday.
"All the ingredients are there for Wilson to bounce back big-time in 2023—so much so that Wilson is going to do something this year he never has before: Throw for 4,300 yards."
It may seem a tad farfetched after Wilson's shaky maiden voyage with the Broncos, during which he posted personal lows in completion percentage (60.5) and passing touchdowns (16). But the nine-time Pro Bowler eclipsed 4,000 yards as recently as 2020, his penultimate year in Seattle when he also tossed a career-best 40 TDs.
Wilson's individual passing record currently sits at 4,219 yards, which occurred in 2016.
Even if Wilson falls short of topping that, he's fully expected to rebound statistically. Last month, ESPN's Mike Clay estimated Wilson will complete 63.1% of his passes (328-of-519) for 3,875 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions across 16 starts this fall, adding 322 rushing yards and three scores on the ground.
