Russell Wilson Sends Heartfelt Message to Broncos After Release
The Denver Broncos finally made their long-awaited move of cutting ties with quarterback Russell Wilson on Monday, after the team announced they would be releasing the 9x Pro Bowler at the start of the new league year.
It was a move that came as less than a shock, considering the rumblings that persisted all offseason hinting at this being the result soon-to-come. Now, the Broncos will take on a massive $85 million hit in dead cap as a result of the premature ending to Wilson's contract.
However, despite the ugly end to his tenure with the franchise, Wilson took to his socials to dish out one final send-off to Broncos Country after two seasons with the team:
Over these last two years, you have welcomed my family and me with open arms and have embraced us as members of the Denver community. This city will always hold a special place in my heart. Our family grew here, we made countless memories and friendships, and formed relationships that will last a lifetime. To my teammates, thank you for going to battle together and for being there through it all. There are so many moments I cherish because of you and I am blessed for the impact you have made on my life. I am beyond grateful for all of you and to have been able to run out as your teammate was an honor.
Russ was with the Broncos from 2022-2023, where he posted totals of 6,592 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions on a 63.3% completion rate. Denver secured a record of 11-19 through his 30 starts, and will decide to pivot into another direction at the position for next season.
The next question for the Broncos revolves around who will be the next man up to attempt to lead this Denver squad to the postseason for the first time since the 2015 season.
